This CD contains 5 compositions of Brian Ferneyhough created in 1980s. With exception of La Chute d'Icare all of them belongs to a larger cycle Carceri d'Invenzione. In my opinion these are some of the most imaginative works Ferneyhough has ever written. Along with Pierre Boulez's Marteau sans Maitre and Elliot Carter's A Mirror on which to Dwell, Ferneyhough's Etudes Transcendetales belongs to the most beautiful song cycles for voice and instrumental ensemble of the 2nd half of XXth century.
