When John Murdoch wakes with no memory at the scene of a grisly murder, he soon finds himself hunted by the police, a woman claiming to be his wife and a misterious group of pale men who seem to control everything and everyone in the city.

Director's Cut of "Dark City" ('98) (released July 29, 2008). This version includes enhanced picture and sound, never-before-seen footage, new subplots, new sound mix and some enhanced visual effects. Proyas re-composited many effects. The new cut is 15 minutes longer.

Alex Proyas' ("The Crow", "I, Robot") "Dark City" is a marvel of production design with an amazing look.
The film was inspired visually by German Expressionist films such as Lang's "Metropolis" and "M", Murnau's "Nosferatu" and Robert Wiene's "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari".

"Dark City" didn't do well at the box office but has gone on to earn its place as a cult hit.
Proyas' vision was unfortunately overlooked in the stampede to praise "The Matrix".
