Â“ Discovery was the band's first No. 1 album in the UK, entering the chart at that position and staying there for five weeks. The LP contained five hit songs in Shine a Little Love, Don't Bring Me Down, Last Train to London, Confusion and The Diary of Horace Wimp, many of which were heavily influenced by disco (in fact, Richard Tandy came up with its well known nickname, Disco Very). Don't Bring Me Down would become their only top three hit in the UK throughout their career, and also their highest-charting US single at #4. The Diary of Horace Wimp was also a hit single in the UK, although it was not patterned after the disco sound; instead it was closer in style to the band's earlier hit Mr. Blue Sky. The album itself was the first ever to generate four top-ten singles {one of which was a Double A-side) from a single LP in the UK and was eventually certified 2x platinum by the RIAA in 1997. Â”

Â“ The album tells the story of a man, circa 1981, who is taken away by time travellers to the late 21st Century. Once there, he marvels at the wonders that the future offers, but is also increasingly amazed to find that he longs for his own time (the past) and the woman he left behind because of his journey forward. Although he has been provided a robot woman, who obeys his every command without question, he quickly realizes that this is a poor substitute for his lost love: the robot companion can never love or be loved by him. Although his desire to return to the past grows stronger, he does not take the opportunity to use his captors' time transporter equipment. He subsequently learns Â— perhaps on his own Â— that his captors had only been holding him in their future to illustrate to him how it suffers from the choices that had been made by mankind during his time. Once this revelation occurs, the man is finally returned to his year of origin (1981), armed with the understanding necessary for him to make a positive impact on the future Â”

Secret Messages (1983) | 377 MB

Â“ The record was originally planned to be a double album, but the band's record company cited that it would be too expensive for a double vinyl LP due to the early 80's oil crisis. This version of the album was digitally recorded and supposed to be ELO's first compact disc before Balance Of Power. Six of the songs from the intended double album would appear as B-sides and reappear on the Afterglow box set in 1990, including a string-laden eight minute long tribute to the band's home town (Birmingham) entitled Hello My Old Friend. Some of the tracks reappeared on the 2001 re-issue of the album. Endless Lies, which had been altered for its inclusion on the subsequently-released Balance of Power album, appears in its original 1983 form on the 2001 remaster of this album. Â”

Balance Of Power (1986) | 370 MB

Â“ Balance of Power was the last studio album by the Electric Light Orchestra for a period of over 15 years (until Zoom was released in 2001). By this time Kelly Groucutt had departed and the group was pared down to a trio, with Jeff Lynne handling bass (in addition to his usual guitar work) and more dabbling with electronic percussion and synthesisers. ELO played some live concerts in the UK and Europe (their last for fifteen years), and in one UK show George Harrison performed as guest guitarist. Â”
