Alcatraz es un conjunto de instrumentistas deslumbrantes, aunque sus discos no sean exlusivamente instrumentales. Hasta 1987, poco antes de la grabación de este disco, eran conocidos como La Corte Musical, un nombre también español como Alcatraz. Algunos de ellos como las magníficas Cheryl Ann Fulton (arpas medievales) y Shira Kammen (viella, rebec) tocarían luego en otros grupos venerados, como por ejemplo el Ensemble P.A.N. y la Camerata de Joel Cohen. En este disco, como indican en el subtítulo, interpretan canciones francesas, anglonormandas y latinas y también danzas, músicas todas ellas del siglo XIII. Las danzas pocas veces se han interpretado de forma tan hermosa.
