Although The Animals were quite blues/funk influenced, it wasn't until Eric Burdon founded War that he gave himself over to it completely. This is a great first album, and the fact that War struck out on their own following this record doesn't detract from its power. "Spill the Wine" was the huge hit, but check out "Tobacco Road"--you'll be doing yourself a favor.

About a month ago, I was putting files in order on the hard drive I keep my lossless audiophile files on, and came across six albums by War from this series that I couldn't remember. Even now, I don't remember where or when I got these. I did searches on all the sites I frequent and found nothing, so it may have been quite some time ago (the logfiles are dated early 2006).
