This reissue of psych-rock quintet Fever Tree's first 2 LPs on a single CD offers another instance of a Texas band captivated by the Bay Area sound of psychedelia, ca. 1967-69. Other Texas-originated bands that went this route included FT's Houston contemporaries the Moving Sidewalks (precursors to ZZTop) and the Austin freak band the 13th Floor Elevators, fronted by lysergized legend roky erickson. The Steve Miller band, which was San Francisco-based but led by two transplanted Dallasites, Miller and Boz Scaggs, can be considered members of this category as well. The sound is a bit pretentious and ponderous at times, but the classic psych-pop anthem "San Francisco Girls" holds up.
