Der 22-jhrige Craig Jones lebt mit seinen Eltern und seiner Schwester im
Stadtteil South Central von Los Angeles. Er arbeitete in einem Supermarkt und
wurde entlassen, weil er angeblich Bchsen gestohlen habe. Er lehnt es ab,
kriminell zu werden, hat jedoch auch nicht den Antrieb, sein Leben in die Hand
zu nehmen und etwas draus zu machen. Craig hat eine Freundin, Joi, er ist aber
in die Sportlehrerin Debbie verliebt. Nachdem er arbeitslos geworden ist, sitzt
er vor seinem Haus mit seinem Freund Smokey und verbringt dort die Zeit.
