Cleaning:

1. Apply Phoenix cleaning fluid w/ enzymes and scrub with Mobile Fidelity brush
2. Steam #1 with McCulloch steamer and wipe clean
3. Steam #2 Rinse with RO/DI water
4. Dry with microfiber cloth
5. Air dry on drying rack
6. Dry brush with Hunt EDA prior to needledrop to remove last bits of dust


Capture:

1. Capture entire side in 32bit - 96khz with Adobe Audition 3.0
2. Check RMS statistics, level off left and right power levels if necessary
3. Clickrepair 20/Decrackle 0, Wavelet x2 Reverse w/ Pitch Protection
4. Manually remove remaining clicks using Adobe Audition 3.0
5. Run fade-in/fade-out routines, cut sides into individual 32 bit WAV files
6. Run IsotopeRX Advanced for SRC/Dither to 24/96 and/or 16/44


About the Music:

I don't think this album needs any introduction. I can't say anything about it more eloquently than the tons of others who have written on its merits, so I won't. It's widely acclaimed as one of the best, if not THE best studio album by the Dead. Annnnnnd... it's one of the greatest albums ever made, to boot. Enough said.

Technical Notes:

One of the easiest rips I've ever done. Album and cover were both in primo condition. Actually, it looked like someone bought it, played it once, decided (foolishly) they didn't like it, and never played it again. His loss... I think after Clickrepair was run and some very light noise reduction, I corrected a total of maybe 10 clicks manually for the entire album. That is beyond superb. I don't have the MFSL CD so I can't compare my rip to it, but I think this sounds pretty damn fantastic to my ears. I do have the DVD-A for comparison and I like the sound of the album better (in stereo mode) -- it's warmer, with fuller low range, better treble extension, and the same richness I've come to expect from analog rendering of acoustic instruments.
