Plot
Elwood P. Dowd is a mild-mannered, pleasant alcoholic, who pals around with a giant rabbit (a "pooka" named Harvey) that only he sees (and a few privileged others on occasion also.) After his sister tries to commit him to a mental institution, a comedy of errors ensues. Elwood and Harvey become the catalysts for a family mending its wounds and for romance blossoming in unexpected places...

Awards
In 1951 Josephine Hull (well-known from "Arsenic and Old Lace") won Golden Globe and Oscar as Best Supporting Actress. Quite rightly. She is great, she is excellent, she is pukka! ;)
James Stewart was nominated for Globe and Oscar too, but he has got nothing.


Stewart incarne Elwood P.Dowd, un homme bon de nature, dont le compagnon inséparable est Harvey, un lapin de six pieds de haut que lui seul peut voir.
Steven Spielberg a récemment fait savoir qu'il avait décidé de diriger un remake du "Harvey".

Ein unsichtbarer Riesenhase begleitet James Stewart durch Leben und Suff.
Elwood P. Down glaubt sich von einem Puka, einem sechs Fuß großen Hasen namens Harvey begleitet. Doch damit nicht genug: Zum Leidwesen seiner Schwester Louise besteht der schrullige Zechbruder darauf, seinen Kumpel allen Menschen vorzustellen, denen er begegnet. Schließlich lässt Louise ihn einliefern, gerät dabei aber selbst in die Gummizelle…
1944 gewann das Bühnenstück von Mary Chase, auf dem dieser Film basiert, den Pulitzerpreis.
Josephine Hull ("Arsen und Spitzenhäubchen") bekam den Oscar als beste Neben-Darstellerin.
Steven Spielberg will den Komödien-Klassiker neu verfilmen. Es soll allerdings eine sehr freie Bearbeitung des Stoffes sein. Drehbeginn: Anfang 2010.
