Il grande sogno è un film ambientato in Italia nel 1968, quando i giovani sognavano di cambiare il mondo, quando le regole venivano infrante, lamore era libero e tutto sembrava possibile. Nicola, un bel giovane pugliese, è poliziotto ma sogna di recitare e si trova, invece, a dover fare linfiltrato nel mondo studentesco in forte fermento. Alluniversità incontra Laura, una ragazza della buona borghesia cattolica, brillante e appassionata studentessa che sogna un mondo senza ingiustizie, e Libero, uno studente-operaio, leader del movimento studentesco che sogna la rivoluzione. Tra i tre nascono sentimenti e forti passioni e Laura sedotta da entrambi dovrà scegliere chi dei due amare
