Volume 6 covers Leadbelly's recordings from 1947 in New York. Due to the demise of Asch and Disc labels and the disputes of the ownership of the masters, about two-thirds these songs are re-recordings of previously released Asch and Disc masters. Some others are new versions of titles previously released by Victor, Bluebird and Musicraft. The last batch of songs included here is not listed in any of the discographies and may have been recorded by one of the other small independent labels in New York.
