Plot:
Derek Charles (Idris Elba) is the Executive Vice President of Gage Bendix, an assets management group. Derek’s life is seemingly perfect. His diligence has resulted in a recent promotion. He leads an immaculate home life, in which he is happily married. His wife, Sharon (Beyoncé Knowles) shares in his apparent lack of flaw. The couple also have a baby son named Kyle.

All this is disturbed by the appearance of the new temporary worker, Lisa (Ali Larter), who has requested to be assigned to Derek. Lisa’s arrival is at first unnerving, but Derek places his apprehensions as Lisa reveals an apparently innocent nature. Unfortunately, the sexual undertones Derek first notice manifest themselves fully when Lisa attempts to seduce him, only to be thwarted when he repeatedly rejects her advances.

As the story continues, Lisa’s obsession presents itself as she carefully manipulates Derek and Sharon’s relationship. When Lisa finds her affection is not returned, she becomes violent. Her actions become erratic, and she fakes a suicide naked in Derek's hotel room, leaving him no choice but to send her to the hospital.

Despite Derek's protests of innocence, his relationship with Sharon is strained when she learns of Lisa's attempts to seduce him, and the couple begin to hate each other and separate for 3 months. After a string of events that results in their reunion (such as how Lisa tricks their babysitter Samantha (Scout Taylor-Compton) into letting her go see Kyle and she tries to steal him but Kyle is found safe in the backseat of Sharon's car.) Derek and Sharon set up a home alarm system for the house and while Lisa constantly monitors the house secretly. Its been 6months when one day, Patrick, Derek's assistant, received a call from Lisa. He revealed that Sharon and Derek would be leaving for her mother's house, with Sharon leaving that afternoon and Derek first thing the next day morning. When Sharon was driving along out to her mother's place, she called Derek who asked her if she set the alarm. She realised she forgotten and told him she would swing back to set it and call him after. Lisa, in the mean time, has broken into the house. Sharon reached home and while setting the alarm, heard something the sound of champagne opening. Sharon attacks Lisa after finding her in the couple’s bed. Derek, in the mean time tried calling Sharon's cellphone and couldn't find her. After that he tried calling the house and found out that both Sharon and Lisa were there and he called the police and left the office. The resulting fight goes from room to room before reaching the attic, where Lisa falls through the floor/ceiling into the entrance hall. Sharon reaches out and prevents Lisa from falling two stories onto the glass table below. In return, Lisa attempts to pull Sharon down with her. Seeing that the struggle is causing the floor to buckle beneath her, Sharon forces Lisa’s hand off of her arm resulting in Lisa falling onto the table below. While the fall does not kill Lisa, the now-damaged entryway chandelier falls onto of her.

The police arrived as Sharon was seen coming out of the front door. As the film ends, Sharon and Derek are seen embracing one another as they leave their home and Beyonce's song "Smash Into You" plays onto the ending credits.
