Samuel Fullerâ€™s throat-grabbing exposÃ© on American racism was misunderstood and withheld from release when it was made in the early eighties; today, the notorious film is lauded for its daring metaphor and gripping pulp filmmaking. Kristy McNichol stars as a young actress who adopts a lost German shepherd, only to discover through a series of horrifying incidents that the dog has been trained to attack black people, and Paul Winfield plays the animal trainer who tries to cure him. A snarling, uncompromising vision, White Dog is a tragic portrait of the evil done by that most corruptible of animals: the human being.

Samuel Fuller's "White Dog" is arguably the greatest allegorical film about racism ever made; yet it sadly received a hypocritical treatment upon its release and certain 'important' people who assumed that audiences weren't ready for such a subdued, confronting and challenging film deliberately pushed it into oblivion. Notwithstanding this harsh and unfair treatment, "White Dog" is a remarkably subtle venture into the phenomenon of racism and the film is, ironically enough, intelligent because of its simplicity. Fuller and co-writer Curtis Hanson do not directly attack racism, they just illustrates the senselessness through the persona of one of its living 'instruments'. The dog â€“ as Paul Winfield's character compellingly explains â€“ only sees in terms of black and white and instinctively attacks the color he's learned to hate, but basically he is also just a victim of the depraved phenomenon. Rather than to shove morals down your throat or to point fingers at random people, "White Dog" simply depicts three courageous people attempting to 'cure' one victimized dog of racism but leaves it up to the viewer to make generalizations, if any.

Escarbando en el texto, no tardamos en descubrir la piel del lobo, del viejo Fuller, quien viste con su proverbial economÃa descriptiva esta parÃ¡bola de tintes sociolÃ³gicos, esta meditaciÃ³n sobre la genealogÃa de la lacra social llamada segregaciÃ³n racial, y que va delineando una radiografÃa hiperbÃ³lica cuya Ãºnica forma es la violencia y Ãºnico fondo el pesimismo. AtiÃ©ndase a la compresiÃ³n narrativa, a la absoluta ausencia de espacios muertos en el frenÃ©tico devenir de la historia, magnÃficamente secuenciada en dos tiempos, el primero de exposiciÃ³n de la materia, y el segundo â€“el mÃ¡s brillante cinematogrÃ¡ficamente hablando-, en el que se plantea la tesis que al final se revelarÃ¡ irresoluble.
