Placed on the novel by Nikos Kazantzakis, the film tells of Jesus Christ with a very unconventional point of view. Jesus showed the doubting and hesitant. He understands that chosen by God to carry his word to people, but with the same success in his place could be any other. Noncanonical interpretation of the New Testament has caused a scandal in the clerical circles, and, as is often the case, served as additional advertising film. Scorsese received "oskarnuyu" nomination for Best Director. Picture looks with great interest. In some countries, this film tried to ban and boycott his show. Over the ocean, some clerics guarantee the eve of the apocalypse premiere. The picture was cursed at all, and anathematized, not seeing a single frame ...
